HandsFreeLink System Description - Overview
The HandsFreeLink(R) (HFL) automatically connects (pairs) to a linked phone when the vehicle is in the ACCESSORY or ON mode. The HFL also synchronizes with the paired cell phone's phone book to automatically update any changes. Depending on the functions of the cell phone, the automatic update may not work. Display Audio (includes HFL)
The display audio unit has a built-in the HFL function. And two microphones for sound recognition/HFL, an antenna for Bluetooth communication are included in the display panel. Normal Audio
The HandsFreeLink control unit builds in the Bluetooth transceiver. The audio unit controls the HandsFreeLink control unit using the GA-NET. Software Update Function
The HandsFreeLink control unit software can be updated with the HDS. New updates will allow vehicle's to pair with newer approved cell phones. Diagnostic Function
The display audio can read the part number and software version about the HandsFreeLink control unit, and can check the connections between the audio unit (audio-navigation unit) and the HandsFreeLink control unit. The HandsFreeLink control unit has diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) that cannot be read by the HDS. There is a self-diagnostic function available that does not need the HDS. General Operation
The HFL switch on the steering wheel is used to answer incoming calls, to make outgoing calls, or to end a call. The steering wheel switch signals are directed to the HandsFreeLink control unit via the gauge control module and the audio unit. The HFL information is displayed on the multi-information display. The microphone picks up the driver's voice and sends the signal to the HandsFreeLink control unit. The signal is then sent from the Bluetooth transceiver to the cell phone. The caller's voice signal is sent from the cell phone to the Bluetooth transceiver, then directed to the audio unit via the analog audio line (TELEM SIG)*. The audio unit or the audio-navigation unit outputs the voice signal through the front door speakers. *: With normal audio Muting Logic
When you are talking on the mobile phone using the HFL system, the front speakers provide the HFL sound and the rear speakers are muted. Fan Mute Operation (With Climate Control)
When the voice recognition is in use, the audio unit or audio-navigation unit sends the fan mute signal to the climate control unit via the B-CAN. The blower fan operating voltage may be reduced depending on the current fan speed. Voice Tag Function (With Display Audio)
The audio unit can save voice tag to memory for making a call by voice recognition possible. The voice tag saved at the audio unit is related with Speed Dial. Short Message Service (With Display Audio)
The audio unit or the audio-navigation unit processes the short message service (SMS) data sent from the cell phone. The text message information is displayed on the display. |
