Transmission Fluid (HCF-2) Replacement

NOTE:
Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.
When you drain the transmission fluid to remove components, drain the fluid without warming the engine for safety.

1. Engine - Warm Up

1.
Start the engine, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on twice), and turn the engine off.

3. Transmission Fluid - Drain

1.
Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the transmission fluid.

NOTE:
Drain the transmission fluid for more than 5 minutes.
Remove metal particles from the magnetic surface of the drain plug.

2.
Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).

NOTE: Do not reuse the old sealing washer.

4. Transmission Fluid - Refill

1.
Remove the filler cap (A).

2.
Refill the transmission with the recommended fluid into the filler hole (A). Always use genuine Honda HCF-2 Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid.

NOTE: Using the wrong type of fluid will damage the transmission.

Continuously Variable Transmission Fluid Capacity:
2WD:

3.7 L (3.9 US qt) at change

5.8 L (6.1 US qt) at oil pan, lower valve body, and transmission fluid pump removal, installation, and replacement* (standard amount for 20 minutes operation time)

7.6 L (8.0 US qt) at overhaul
AWD/4WD:

4.3 L (4.5 US qt) at change

4.8 L (5.1 US qt) at transfer removal, installation, and replacement

6.8 L (7.2 US qt) at oil pan, lower valve body, and transmission fluid pump removal, installation, and replacement* (standard amount for 20 minutes operation time)

8.4 L (8.9 US qt) at overhaul

NOTE(*): When you remove the oil pan, you must be careful about the transmission fluid (HCF-2) capacity for filling the transmission. Compared to the specified capacity, the actual transmission fluid (HCF-2) capacity can be increased by the elapsed time after removing the oil pan.

3.
Install the filler cap (A) in the direction shown.

6. Maintenance Minder - Reset

1.
If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the transmission fluid, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see "Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance Minder did not require to replace the transmission fluid, reset the Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the Individual Maintenance Items").
