Audio System Self-Diagnostic Function

NOTE: The screens detail indicated may change depending on equipment or specification.

How to Obtain the Audio Unit Serial Number

This diagnosis is applied to the audio unit (normal audio) only.

NOTE: This procedure can only be done after the battery power has been disconnected and reconnected to the audio unit, and the audio system displays ‘‘Push and hold POWER (

) for more than two seconds to start.’’ when the audio unit is turned on.

1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

2.	Make sure the audio unit is turned off.

3.	Use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that displays Audio Off.

4.	Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

5.	While holding the buttons, press the POWER button.

6.	Release the buttons, and the audio unit displays an 8-digit serial number on the display.

7.	Use all 8 numbers as the serial number when using the Interactive Network (iN) to retrieve the 5-digit anti-theft code.

8.	To end the function, turn the audio system off, or turn the vehicle to the OFF mode.

How to Check the Audio System Condition

This diagnosis is applied to the audio unit (normal audio) only.

The audio system has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the audio system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

NOTE:

	Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
	Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
	There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
	The self-diagnostic function does not find every problem with the audio system.

1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

2.	Make sure the audio unit is turned off.

3.	Use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that displays Audio Off.

4.	Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.

5.	While holding the buttons, press the POWER button.

6.	Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.

When you are in the self-diagnostic mode, pressing the preset button starts the diagnostic mode that is assigned to that preset button. To exit this mode, go to step 8. Once you exit this test, you must start again at step 1.

	No. 2 button: Audio button, knob, and audio remote switch detection mode
	No. 4 button: Duty indication mode (for the Illumination dim)
	No. 5 button: Vehicle speed pulse (VSP) indication mode
	FM button or AM button (Press and hold 5 sec): Reception level indication mode

8.	To end the self-diagnostic mode, turn the audio system off, or turn the vehicle to the OFF mode.

Audio Button, Knob, and Audio Remote Switch Detection Mode (press No. 2 button)

This test allows you to manually check all the audio switch panel buttons and knobs, and the audio remote switch buttons. When the button, the knob, or the switch is properly detected, the name or value of the input appears on the display.

NOTE:

	The POWER button does not support this diagnosis.
	The DISPLAY button and the MENU button on the audio remote/multi-information display switch are not supported with this diagnosis.

Illumination Level (for the Gauge Illumination) Indication (press No. 4 button)

This diagnostic screen checks the gauge illumination input.

With the headlights on, use the dimmer knob to dim and brighten the gauge. You should see the value change from 1 (max low) to 22 (max high). If it does not change, go to Display does not dim or brighten with dimmer troubleshooting.

Vehicle Speed Pulse Indication (press No. 5 button)

This diagnostic screen checks that the audio unit is receiving the VSP indication.

When you test drive the vehicle, the VSP indicates the vehicle speed in km/h.

Reception Level Indication Mode (press and hold FM button or AM button for 5 sec)

This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's reception level in decibels (dB). This level then can be used in the diagnosis of the audio unit reception quality.

Preparation:

	Park the vehicle outside in a good location away from tall buildings, mountains, high-voltage power line or any other object that may interfere with reception.
	Tune to a powerful local FM radio station then write down the radio station number.
	Tune to a powerful local AM radio station then write down the radio station number.

1.	Enter the reception level indication mode in the self-diagnostic function.

2.	Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the tuning button, and note the decibel level of that station when you release the button.

3.	Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.

4.	Note the decibel level of that station with the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.

5.	Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.

6.	Press and hold the AM button for more than 5 seconds to enter the AM reception mode.

7.	Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in preparation using the TUNING button, and note the decibel level of that station.

8.	Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.

9.	Note the decibel level of that station with the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.

10.	Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.

11.	To end the self-diagnostic mode, turn the audio system off, or turn the vehicle to the OFF mode.

Compare your results to a known-good, (make sure it is the same year and trim level) in the same location and direction, and under the same environmental conditions.

	If the reception level is within 10 % of the known-good vehicle, no repair is needed at this time.
	If the reception level is at least 10 % less than the known good vehicle, go to Poor AM or FM radio reception or interference troubleshooting.

Speaker Check Mode

NOTE:

	Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
	Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.

1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

2.	Make sure the audio unit is turned off.

3.	Use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that displays Audio Off.

4.	Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 3 buttons.

5.	While holding the buttons, push the POWER button.

6.	Release the buttons, and the speaker check mode begins.

Display Specifications

	A-Diag SPK ALL	You should hear a tone from the all speakers.

7.	To end the speaker check mode, turn the audio system off, or turn the vehicle to the OFF mode.

Display Diagnosis

The multi-information display unit has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the multi-information display unit. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

Service Diag

NOTE:

	Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
	There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.

1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

2.	Press the MENU button to display the Vehicle Menu.

3.	Press and hold the MENU button and then the SOURCE button on the audio remote switch for about 10 seconds. The Service Diag menu screen appears.

4.	Use the directional pad to select the diagnosis, then press the SOURCE button to enter your selection.

5.	To end the display diagnosis, turn the audio system off, press the MENU button, or turn the vehicle to the OFF mode.

In Line Diag (multi-information display unit)

NOTE: If the vehicle left the factory in the factory diagnostic mode, you will see this screen every time you turn the vehicle to the ON mode. You may also see this screen if you recently replaced the multi-information display unit.

When the multi-information display unit is powered up for the first time at the factory or sometimes when a remanufactured multi-information display unit is installed, the factory diagnostic screen (In Line Diag) appears. Normally the factory does the steps necessary to verify proper operation and terminate the factory diagnosis. Until the proper confirmation sequence is done, the screen appears every time the vehicle is started.

Also, the In Line Diag function can be performed from the Service Diag menu.

Select the In Line Diag in the Service Diag menu, then select the Diagnostic Result.

The In Line Diag function runs automatically. When the diagnosis finishes, the icons turn different colors based on their test status (OK or NG).

NOTE: The Result (A) indicates NG until the audio remote switch buttons (the DISPLAY button or the MENU button and the SOURCE button or the directional pad) are pressed.

Icon Colors	Description
Green	The system ran a diagnosis and the results are OK.
Red	Errors that require replacement of hardware or harness.
Yellow	Errors that do not require hardware replacement, such as a missing optional systems (rearview camera).
White	The diagnosis is running. The screen functions are locked out while the diagnosis runs.

After the test is complete, press the SOURCE button to exit.

Camera

This diagnosis is applied to the audio unit (normal audio) only.

This screen adjusts the rearview camera image guide lines. Press the audio unit selector knob to select the rear view mode (wide, normal, top down). If you need to adjust a guide line, select the point you want to adjust using the SOURCE button, and use the directional pad, and you can move the guide line.

The coordinate of the guide line (A) indicates the selected point position on the screen.

If you need to reset the guide line to the factory settings, press and hold the MENU button for more than 2 seconds.

After the setting is complete, press the MENU button to exit.

Display Check

These diagnostic screens allow you to troubleshoot the display unit. Select the item you want to troubleshoot, and follow the diagnostic instructions.

Color Bar

This screen shows the colors being used for the multi-information display unit. This is for factory use only.

The colors should appear in the following order: White, Yellow, Light Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Blue, Black

Black

This screen checks for pixels that may be stuck on. The entire display must be black. If pixels are stuck on, replace the multi-information display unit.

White

This screen checks for pixels that may be dead (off). The entire display must be white. If there are dead pixels, replace the multi-information display unit.

Red, Green, Blue

These screens checks that the multi-information display unit is displaying red, green, and blue colors properly. If any of the colors are missing, replace the multi-information display unit.

Gray Bar

This screen checks problems with contrast. You should be able to see the changes from bar to bar across the scale. It is normal for the two bars on either side to appear the same. If you cannot see changes from bar to bar, replace the multi-information display unit.

Point

This screen is for factory use only.

Product Info

This screen displays the parts number (A), the product number (PN), and the serial number (S/N) about the multi-information display unit. This is for factory use only.

Artwork

This screen allows you to select the iPod album art function On or Off. Refer to the Owner's Manual for more information about the album art function.

PANDORA

This screen allows you to select the PANDORA function On or Off. Refer to the Owner's Manual for more information about the PANDORA function.
