Rear Knuckle/Hub Bearing Unit Removal and Installation
1. Knuckle/Hub Bearing Unit - Exploded View

Exploded View



NOTE:
Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedures.
Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations used in the procedure are for AWD/4WD.

Hub Bearing Unit

3. Rear Brake Caliper - Remove


1.
Remove the brake hose mounting bolt (A).

2.
Remove the caliper assembly (B).

NOTE:
To prevent damage to the caliper assembly or brake hose, use a short piece of wire to hang the caliper assembly from the undercarriage.
Do not twist the brake hose excessively.

4. Rear Spindle Nut - Remove (AWD/4WD)


1.
Pry up the stake (A) on the spindle nut (B).

2.
Remove the spindle nut.

NOTE:
Use the new spindle nut during reassembly.
Apply a small amount of engine oil to the seating surface of a new spindle nut.
Use a drift to stake the spindle nut shoulder against the driveshaft during reassembly.

6. Hub Bearing Unit - Remove

2WD
1.
2WD: Remove the hub bearing unit (A).





AWD/4WD
2.
AWD/4WD: Remove the hub bearing unit (A) by tapping the driveshaft end (B) with a soft face hammer while drawing the hub bearing unit outward.

7. Hub Bearing Unit for Damage and Cracks - Check


8. All Removed Parts - Install

1.
Install the hub bearing unit in the reverse order of removal.

Knuckle

1. Backing Plate - Remove

1.
Remove the parking brake assembly (A).

NOTE:
To prevent damage to the backing plate or parking brake cable, use a short piece of wire to hang the backing plate from the undercarriage.
Do not twist the parking brake cable excessively.

2. Rear Wheel Speed Sensor - Remove

1.
Remove the wheel speed sensor (A).

NOTE: Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.

3. Knuckle - Support


1.
Position a floor jack at the connecting point of the trailing arm (A) and the knuckle (B).

2.
Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.

4. Knuckle - Remove


1.
Remove the flange bolt (A).

NOTE: Use a new flange bolt during reassembly.

2.
Disconnect the upper arm (B) from the knuckle (C).






3.
Mark the cam positions of the adjusting bolt (A) with the frame.

4.
Mark the cam positions of the adjusting cam plate (B) with the frame.

5.
Remove the self-locking nut (C), the adjusting cam plate, and the adjusting bolt.

NOTE: Use a new self-locking nut and a new adjusting bolt during reassembly.

6.
Remove the flange bolt (D).

NOTE: Use a new flange bolt during reassembly.

7.
Remove the knuckle (E).





8.
Remove the brake hose mounting bracket (A).

5. All Removed Parts - Install

1.
Install the knuckle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

NOTE:
Align the cam positions of the adjusting bolt and the adjusting cam plate with the maked positions.
Loosely install nuts and/or bolts to install the bushings, load the suspension with the vehicle’s weight, and then tighten the nuts and/or bolts to the specified torque.
