NOTE:
The tapered roller bearing and the tapered roller bearing outer race should be replaced as a set.
Replace the tapered roller bearing with a new one whenever the tapered roller bearing outer race is replaced.
Adjust the tapered roller bearing preload after replacing the tapered roller bearing and the tapered roller bearing outer race.
Apply a light coat of clean transmission fluid on all parts before installation.
Unless otherwise indicated, illustrations used in the procedure are for AWD/4WD.

Transmission Housing Side

1. Tapered Roller Bearing Outer Race - Remove

Remove the tapered roller bearing outer race (A) by heating the transmission housing to about 212 °F (100 °C) using a heat gun (B).

NOTE: Do not heat the transmission housing more than 212 °F (100 °C).

2. Tapered Roller Bearing Outer Race - Install

Place a new tapered roller bearing outer race.





2.
Drive the tapered roller bearing outer race securely using the 15 x 135L driver handle and the 68.5 mm oil seal driver attachment so there is no clearance between the tapered roller bearing outer race, the oil guide plate, and the transmission housing.

Torque Converter Housing Side

1. Tapered Roller Bearing Outer Race - Remove

Remove the tapered roller bearing outer race (A), the 80 mm thrust shim (B), and the oil guide plate (C) by heating the torque converter housing to about 212 °F (100 °C) using a heat gun (D).

NOTE: Do not heat the torque converter housing more than 212 °F (100 °C).

2. Tapered Roller Bearing Outer Race - Install


1.
Install the oil guide plate (A) and the 80 mm thrust shim (B).

2.
Place a new tapered roller bearing outer race (C).





3.
Drive the tapered roller bearing outer race securely using the 15 x 135L driver handle and the 78 x 80 mm bearing driver attachment so there is no clearance between the tapered roller bearing outer race, the 80 mm thrust shim, and the torque converter housing.
