Front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stays on or comes on suddenly
NOTE:
Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information.
Before replacing the SRS unit, update the SRS unit software. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software, and retest.
Before replacing the front passenger's weight sensor unit, update the front passenger's weight sensor unit. If the software version is not the latest, update the front passenger's weight sensor unit software, and retest.

Under the following conditions, the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stays on or comes on suddenly:
When no one is sitting on the front passenger's seat, but there is an object on the seat more than 5 kg (11 lbs).
The front seat belt is buckled, but no one is sitting on the front passenger's seat.
Someone who is less than about 30 kg (66 lbs) is sitting on the front passenger's seat.
(The seat weight sensors may not measure the correct weight of the front passenger. If the front passenger's weight is more than 30 kg (66 lbs) but is supporting some of their body weight with their feet on the floor, or with their hands and arms on an arm rest, the actual weight of the passenger is not measured.)

Check for these items, then recheck the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator:
The front passenger's seat is installed correctly.
Nothing is/was on the front passenger's seat.
Nothing is/was under the front passenger's seat.
Nothing is/was in the front passenger's seat-back pocket.
Whoever was sitting on the front passenger's seat is/was sitting in the proper sitting position.

Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
The vehicle is OK at this time.?

Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

From SRS in the HDS Main Menu, select SWS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select AFTER REPLACING FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT COMPONENT(S), and follow the prompts.

Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
The vehicle is OK at this time.?

From SRS in the HDS Main Menu, select SWS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select AFTER A VEHICLE COLLISION, and follow the prompts.

  

Does the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 4.
     
NO
     
     
     
The vehicle is OK at this time.?

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and see if the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator comes on.
