Front Passenger's Airbag Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.


NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

3. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly - Remove

Disconnect the connector (A).

Remove the mounting nuts (B).






3.
Gently remove the front passenger's airbag and lid assembly (A).

NOTE: The airbag lid has clips (B) on each side where it attaches to the dashboard.

4. Front Passenger's Airbag - Remove


1.
Cut the four parts of the front passenger's lid as shown (A).

2.
Remove the front passenger's airbag from the front passenger's lid (B) as needed.
NOTE:
Always replace the lid whenever you remove the airbag from the lid.
Replace the airbag if its housing is damaged.

1. Front Passenger's Airbag - Install

Insert the front passenger's airbag housing (A) into the new front passenger's lid (B).

NOTE:
Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the lid.
Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the lid is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
Replace the airbag if its housing is damaged.
Do not use any tools when attaching the front passenger's airbag in order to protect it.
Make sure the hooks are set properly.

2. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly - Install


1.
Place the front passenger's airbag and lid as an assembly (A) into the dashboard.

2.
Tighten the new mounting nuts (B).





3.
Connect the connector (A).

5. SRS Operation - Confirm

1.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
