Heater Unit/Core Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

4. Heater Hose (HVAC Unit Side) - Disconnect
NOTE:
Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on the electrical parts or the painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
Note the layout of the hoses.

Disconnect the inlet heater hose (A).
2.
Disconnect the outlet heater hose (B).
3.
Remove the mounting nut (A).
NOTE: Take care not to damage or bend the fuel lines or the brake lines.

7. Blower-Heater Unit Assembly - Remove
1.
Disconnect the connector (A).
2.
Disconnect the drain hose (A).
3.
Remove the blower-heater unit assembly (B).

8. Passenger's Heater Duct - Remove

9. A/C Wire Harness - Remove
1.
Disconnect the connectors (A).
2.
With Climate Control: Disconnect the connector (B).
3.
Detach the harness clip (C).
4.
Disconnect the connectors (A).
5.
Detach the harness clips (B).
6.
Disconnect the connector (A).
7.
Detach the connector clip (B).
8.
Detach the harness clips (C).

10. Blower Unit - Remove

11. Heater Core - Remove
1.
Remove the heater core cover (A).
2.
With climate control: Remove the passenger's air mix control motor (A).
3.
Detach the connector clip (A).
4.
Remove the expansion valve cover (B) and the seal (C).
5.
Carefully pull out the evaporator core (A) without bending the lines.
6.
Remove the expansion valve bracket (A).
7.
Remove the grommet (A).
8.
Remove the heater pipe bracket (B).
9.
Carefully pull out the heater core (C) without bending the lines.

12. All Removed Parts - Install
1.
Install the parts in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
New O-rings should be used at each fitting. Prior to installation, apply a thin coat of the same refrigerant oil used in the A/C compressor. Be sure to use the correct O-rings for HFC-134a (R-134a) to avoid leakage.
Do not interchange the inlet and outlet heater hoses, and install the hose clamps securely.
Make sure that there is no coolant leakage.
Make sure that there is no air leakage.
Make sure that there is no refrigerant leakage.
With climate control: Align the passenger's air mix control motor (A) with the gear, then install the motor. After installation, make sure the motor runs smoothly.
